Had a crazy day in Sacramento…highlights include:
-Putting on a button-up shirt to blend into the Administrative Matrix of Sacramento County
-After a couple random acts of kindness on my part, I turned around to put money in my meter and saw that someone had secretly added 4 hours to my meter spot.
-I walked to Old Town to go busking and went the wrong way and found myself at a small homeless encampment. They said the only people who walk back there are going to find a place to sleep or are lost. One of the men was fixing the other’s bike and explaining bike mechanic stuff to me. He knew a lot. They were all so kind and they invited me to come back any time. Don’t know if I’ve ever been treated with such hospitality by strangers in the city.
-I went to K Street to try busking on the bike mechanic’s suggestion and right when I got there I thought I might have to knock someone upside the head with my banjo case who was harassing two young woman by the light rail stop. Fortunately he got on a train, but it was pretty scary as this guy was like twice my size.
-I played “Faith” by George Michael as a couple danced in the street.
-I tried to continue busking, but ended up backing up someone who wanted to freestyle. I rolled with it and it was fun for awhile until…
-This guy who was freestyling ended up being a cat-caller/saying shit that was pretty misogynist and when I stopped playing in the middle of the song to let him know I didn’t think those women appreciated that kind of attention and that I didn’t appreciate it either, he didn’t seem to understand what I was talking about at all…I tried to explain further but it didn’t really work out. I packed up and left pretty frustrated about the whole thing in not being able to convey a message.
-I think I need to further my communication skills and possibly my martial arts training
-Sacramento is real, and I at least appreciate that about it.
